Where many of Warsaw’s budget hotels are on the fringes of the city, Hotel Chmielna sits in the shadow of the iconic Palace of Culture and Science, surrounded by excellent restaurants and nightlife – a good location for seeing most of the key sights.

Hotel Chmielna is a good value option in the heart of Warsaw’s nightlife. This means it can get noisy outside but, really, this is an excellent trade-off for proximity to everything the city has to offer. (Check availability and pricing on Booking.com or Agoda.com).

In Warsaw, even a 2-star property like Hotel Chmielna has a good standard of service and function. The interiors may be a little plain but the rooms look new and in excellent condition. If you want a comfortable bed at the end of the day, this absolutely fits the bill. What’s more, I’ve never stayed in a Polish hotel with a substandard bathroom!

The lobby has an attractive Deco feel, with squared armchairs and checked tiles. There’s a good craft beer bar on the premises, where you can also get Italian food. The staff are on hand 24 hours a day and are generally very helpful. It can be noisy with the window open on warmer nights and, for some, the rooms feel a little small. But these are trade-offs for the price you pay.

If you want to be in the thick of Warsaw’s nightlife without the expense of surrounding hotels, the Chmielna is an excellent choice.

Powiśle and Northern Śródmieście Districts: Sometimes referred to as ‘downtown Warsaw’, Śródmieście contains the Royal Route of Nowy Świat and Krakowskie Przedmiescie – two historic streets crammed with things to see and do. The area is also home to the iconic Palace Of Science And Culture and the stunning InterContinental Warszawa hotel. These districts are peppered with amazing restaurants, including the Michelin listed Szóstka.
